1) Your CD drive may be having trouble reading the disk.
Either find another CD drive to read the disk, or
attempt to clone the CD, using a burner. If you have
a CDRW, it may have better luck reading the motherboard
CD than your current drive.

The autorun on the CD does a check of what chipset is on
the motherboard. The CD contains support for multiple
motherboards, and the autorun has to figure out which
files to offer. (If the disk was readable, you could
also Explore it.)

There have been reports from other users, of problems trying
to read the Asus motherboard CD. I had some trouble with mine
when using a very old CDROM drive.

2) Assuming you cannot read the motherboard CD, download the
files from Asus. The first file is 7MB, and the other three
total 35MB.

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4p800-mx/inf.zip

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4p800-mx/SoundMAX_part1.zip
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4p800-mx/SoundMAX_part2.zip
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4p800-mx/SoundMAX_part3.zip

For the second group of file, you will need to unzip and
decompress them, before the installer is ready to be used.

By installing the chipset drivers first, that will allow the
facilities in the chipset to be enumerated properly. Then,
using the Soundmax installer should go smoothly.

Paul

Thanx Paul,

The first link you offer i havn't tried , but the following three i did
exactly like it should , but when executing the first file i also get an
error message about the file being corrupt.
I will try to instaal the first and proceed with the 3 others.
My cd-rom is actually a brand new dvd +/- double layer burner.
I'll let you know how things work out..............

Yup, reads corrupted for me as well...

These are the MD5SUM for each download file
3a8fc7239118cb50f26d0677c77fb235 SoundMAX_part1.zip 12556940 bytes
9d3d0d49f7137c860c354a068b285adc SoundMAX_part2.zip 12564977 bytes
216bfa9e8eaf55176da0671441889c35 SoundMAX_part3.zip 10830385 bytes

After the unzip of each individual file above:
184006c8a44a44c6a41c3a80f6dbc9e8 SoundMAX.part1.exe 12582912 bytes
7618d410913e9b55ef192d5e4e53b7d3 SoundMAX.part2.rar 12582912 bytes
8a014d0cc9e6ba8f45ac7c8a606cd089 SoundMAX.part3.rar 10834485 bytes

But executing the .exe finds the files corrupted.

Try this one. This should be for the same AD1888/ICH5 combination.
This is from the P4P800S download page. I think the P4P800S-X is
the same.

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/down...=15&l3_id=25&m_id=1&f_name=AD1888.zip~zaqwedc

At least this one unzips OK. Give this a try.

Good luck,
Paul

Hello,

I have stopped trying and called the store to complain about this problem
and they said that often the 'support' cd's from asus cannot be read , and
this could easily be solved by copying the cd and use the copy to install
drivers...................................................
I did it and it worked..................
Thanks for the provided help.
