Overkill ???

I have dl'ed the folowing programs and was wondering if I am going over
the deep end on trying to keep my pc clean:

Norton AV
Ad-Aware
Spybot S & D
SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard
MSN's Spy Sweeper
Microsoft Antispyware (beta)
Bazooka

Is this overkill? I have WinXP SP2 runnng with 2.80GHz, 512mb of memory,
120gb HD. What ones would you reccomend I keep and which ones would you
trash?

Thank you for your time....Marty

There's no need to specifically get rid of any, but I'd keep these:
Norton AV
Ad-Aware
Spybot S & D
Microsoft Antispyware (beta) (until they make you pay for it, if
that's what they do)

....and get rid of these:
SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard
MSN's Spy Sweeper
Bazooka

At least, if I had to make the choices that's what I'd go with. But
that's because I use the first group myself and find them more than
enough to handle everything (although NAV is part of NIS, so there's all
the benefits that go along with that), especially coupled with my
browsing tendencies and the use of Firefox/Thunderbird. There are some
other good antivirus programs out there, though, although I've never had
an issue with NAV handling things.

Just my opinion.

Hi Marty,

Not overkill IMHO.

Panda Titanium AV
AdAware (& AdAware Cloak)
Spybot
Spysweeper
CWShredder
Bazooka
a-squared
Spywareblaster
& Win Patrol
all on my computer. I also have AVG AV installed disabled but ready to take
over, just incase Panda goes wonky!

Colin.

Not necessarily. Do you need 'em all? Prolly not.

I would keep the ones I've starred above. YMMV.

It doesn't hurt to have them installed so you can update and run a scan
quickly if you suspect spyware on your machine. However several of the
items listed have realtime monitoring to help prevent spyware from getting
on the machine in the first place. If you use the realtime monitoring, you
would only want one of them running as multiples running can cause
conflicts and certainly impede system performance.

Thanks everyone for the input, and yes, although they are playing nice
with each other right now, I think I am going to have to choose which
one I will keep to use for real time monitoring....

Take Care; Marty
