Overclocking

Im trying to overclock my cpu. I have an xp2600+ in a asus a7n8x-e
deluxe mobo with 2x 256mb kingston pc2700 ddr.

I set the cpu timing in the bios to menu then changed the multiplier
to 12.5, the highest option there. So i should get 166x12.5 = 2075mhz.
The system boots ok but windows reports that the cpu is still an
xp2600+ running at 1.92ghz.

Should it not tell me that its a 2800+ ( at least ) at 2.06ghz? The
bios also reports the cpu as a 2600+. Im fairly certain that my cpu
isnt multiplier locked and its definatly a barton core.

I also set the system performance option to aggressive.

thanks for any advice.

Oh by the way, my bios version is 1007.

cheers

paul

To start with you need different Ram.
PC3200 as PC2700 is 166MHz (x2=DDR333)
166x12.5 will give as close to 2.08GHz as ever.
An XP2800 Barton is 2.08GHz
on 166MHz ram(PC2700(DDR333))
Is it a Barton or a TBred??

1917MHz
166MHz cpu freq
333fsb(166MHzx2)
PC2700 ram
to even think about overclocking you would need PC3200(200MHz) ram(DDR400)

Half true, if the chip is unlocked/unlockable you could overclock without
raising memory speed.

Thinking about overclocking requires nothing but ideas and understandings -
These can be gleaned from manuals, little info programs, web articles and
dithering forum threads. ;]
