Overclocking 9800 Pro

R

Rev Marc

On this website they claim that the 9800 Pro can be overclocked to 430/760.
Wow! Thas faster than the stock speed of the 9800XT.

Would this configuration require an upgraded fan/cooling system? Also, is
this speed sustainable for extended periods of time without causing damage
to the card?

Would I be crazy to go with this speed, just because it was posted on this
site?

TIA!

Generally it is best to run overclocked machines as cool as possible.
Whether you would need upgraded cooling with any given board depends on
how lucky you are with the components and how far you want to overclock.

Generally speaking overclocking does not cause damage. On the other
hand you may find yourself one of the unfortunate few.

Yes, you would. If you are going to overclock the speed you can achieve
depends on the particular components you have in hand. You can take two
apparently identical boards and find that one won't overclock at all
while the other will overclock quite a lot. Work the speed up slowly
testing as best you can. The site to which you provide a link achieved
a particular speed with a particular board--with another they might have
achieved more while with yet another they might have achieved less.

And never trust an overclocked machine with anything mission-critical.

Try! If it works you are a happy man!
Use Radclock to clock with.
With a Zalman ZM-80C-HP + 92 mm fan I can achieve 459/365(730) for a short
period and 445/358(716) stable.

I have a sapphire 9800 pro and can overclock to that speed with ease with
extra cooling.
