Overclock Failed: P4P800

Jody

Hi,
I'm getting an error message every time i power down and power up:

Overclock Failed! Please enter Setup to re-configure your system.

Thing is, i'm pretty sure it's not overclocked :)

Brand new parts
------------------
P4P800 motherboard
P4-2.4Ghz.
2X 512MB DDR/400 Single Channel Memory
(tried with single piece, same problem)
Asus DVD+-/RW/ Asus Ti4200 Video Card

If i do a reset, the error message doesn't come up. If i power
down/power up, message comes up.

I've tried moving the ram over a couple slots (ie, both in blue
slots, both in A-slot group), nope. always same problem.
However, i do believe that when i put both pieces of ram in the A
series(ie, first piece in blue, 2nd piece in black slot), it
dropped it down to single channel mode instead of detecting as
dual channel during post.

The only thing i could find was in german, which altavista
translates as:

"That your board tried, itself over clocks, and which went wrong.
The board notices that the over clocking did not fold (because it
did not start any longer), shifts back for the next start on
default values - and does not say you answer that it does not
hang-strike has. "

Advice?
Thanks, jody

Overclock Failed! Please enter Setup to re-configure your system.

It appears that the feature "Instant Music" was causing the
problem.
I've powered down/powered up like ten straight times without fail
since i disabled it.

I turn on "Instant Music" (which i wanted to experiment with;
pity) and it comes up with Overclock Failed!

Just a heads up in case anyone else has a similar problem.

THanks,
jody

I have similar problem with my P4P800, too (on powe up, showing the same
"Overclock failed,..." message but I didn't overclock nothing), but it does
not happy from every bootup/power up (it happens one out of about every 10
power ups/reboots), and no, I don't have the board's "Instant Music"
enabled. What to give?

My machine configuration:

ASUS P4P800 (on-board sound and lan enabled)
1x512MB DDR400 PC3200 (Single Channel?)
ATI Radeon 9200 128MB
Pioneer A05 DVD-R/RW
hp cd-writer dvd cmbo 9900

Hm. If it isn't instant music, have you upgraded to version 1.10
(10 anyway) of the bios? the one i got was .09 by default.
My testing path was a) upgrade to .10 bios, b) set default bios b)
take off instant music.

If you have trouble finding the bios update at asus, or
downloading it, i have it saved on my hard drive in case of future
similar problems.
Let me know if you want me to mail it to you (~600kb).

Just reply to me directly.
