Outlook wont run after Office Pro 2007 install failed

I tried to install Office Pro 2007 which failed due to registry permissions.
All my office 2003 programs worked fine except Outlook which reports a
corrupt MAPI32.dll or incorrect version.

We (Microsoft Australia Level 2 telephone support techs and I) have
reinstalled Office 2003, replaced the MAPI32.dll and done a full repair of XP
Pro SP2.

I still get the same problem.
Outlook 2007 must have made an irreversable change.

Can I install Outlook 2007 to get email back? It seems like the only option
left.

Have you checked the version of MAPI32.DLL? DLLs are protected by the OS so
they might have been placed back back it. If you have to change DLLs you
must do it in Windows Safe Mode.

Additionally after a downgrade you'll have to recreate your mail profile;
