Outlook wont open

Chris Coates

I just reloaded my Win XP laptop and installed Office 2007. All applications
work fine except Outlook 2007

It launched once and I imported all my mail.

Now when I launch it, the window starts to open and there is a popup message
that says:

Cannot open your default email folders. "The file C:\Documents and
settings\name\local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
cannot be accessed. Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

There is no Outlook.pst in that directory.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook twice, and it is doing the same
thing.

I have tried launching Outlook in safe mode, but it did the same thing.

The only thing now in the above mentioned directory is Outlook.xml

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

A cyclic redundancy check tells me you have a bad cluster on your hard drive
where the PST is located. Close everything and from a command line type:
chkdsk /r or chkdsk /f to see if you can repair or fix the bad cluster.
I do hope you have a recent backup of your PST, just in case.
A list of the drive errors you may find after running chkdsk is listed here:

Good luck!
