Outlook won't open, even after using SCANPST.

I can't open Outlook 2007. When I try it says the file wasn't closed
correctly last time, runs a scan, and then pops up the following error
message. "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open outlook
window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in
the file C: . . . Outlook.pst. Quit outlook and all mail-enabled
applications, and then use the Inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose
and repair errors in the file. For more information about the Inbox repair
tool, see Help." So I tried to run the Scanpst.exe file several times, but
it only makes it to step 6 before it stops and says that there was an error
there and won't fix anything. Does anyone have any suggestions on another
step I can take?

Time to create a new PST and restore the data from the most recent known
good backup. You do create frequent backups, correct?

I'm not sure if I have any backups or not, how would I find them if I did?
I'm pretty much a rookie when it comes to most of this stuff.
Thanks

You would know because you would have had to take steps to create them.
