Outlook won't launch

Outlook appears to launch, but stalls on the opening screen and I get a "Not
Responding" message. Other Office programs work fine and the email editor
opens when resonding to an email address link on a website.

Reset the Toolbar; all Toolbar customizations will be lost and the Toolbar
will reset to what it looked like when you first installed Outlook. To do
this locate outcmd.dat and rename it to outcmd.old when Outlook is closed.
By default you can find it here;
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Thanks for the help Roady, but it still does the same thing. I should have
mentioned that I saw your other email on the same subject and tried your
different suggestions. I'm runnning Windows 98SE. outlook/ safe comes back
with a "can't find the file" Dtto with clearviews. I also tried to reload
the program with the original Office disc and it still stalls. Any other
ideas?

What file does it ask for? Also; what version of Outlook are we talking
about?

It doesn't ask for any file. The program appears to launch, I get the
opening Outlook Banner screen and then nothing ... just the hourglass icon.
The "Not Responding" is reflected when I open up Task Manager. I'm running
Outlook 2000, with Office 2000 and Windows 98.

Thanks.

Verify if your delivery location (pst-file) still exists. You can find its
location through Control Panel-> Mail. If it's there use scanpst.exe to
chaeck it for errors. If it doesn't exist create a new one.

I ran the scanpst.exe and it did find and fix some minor errors on the
outlook.pst file. But it's still exhibiting the same symptoms ... stalling
and giving me a Not Responding message. Where should the pst file reside?

Thanks

Doesn't matter where it reside as long as it's linked correctly.

Export the following key (for back-up) and then remove it. You'll then be
prompted to create a new Outlook profile. See if it works then;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings\
