Outlook Web Access - Two questions

SV

Greetings,
First: I looked for an Outlook WebAccess forum and didn't find one. If
there is one, let me know the link and I'll post there, instead.

I'm using Outlook 2003 to access an "Outlook Web Access" account on what
appears to be an exchange server.
If I check mail via the web it shows up in a format very similar to Outlook,
which is nice.

I recently opened the WebAccess in Outlook, read an e-mail, and deleted it
(all in Outlook). When I deleted it, the mail showed a 'strikeout' line
across it, no biggie. But it never actually goes away. So I used the
internet version and signed on and that piece of mail doesn't appear, so
apparently the delete took. The folder properties for my inbox show that
it's on the server, not local. Is there something I need to do to clear out
old, deleted items?

Also, when I use the internet to access the Outlook Web Access version,
there's a 'Rules' button and I made a rule that's supposed to forward a copy
of any incoming mail to my work e-mail address (which I access using
Outlook). Would that be a 'server-based' rule that works whether or not my
Outlook at work is running? If someone sends me an e-mail, should it simply
show up for me when I open my Outlook at work?

Thanks,
Shane

Not everything is really clear a I think you mix the use of OWA (web) and
Outlook (program) every now and then.

If it is all about OWA; exchange.clients is the correct newsgroup to post
in.

When you delete a mail in Outlook and it give you a strikeout I think you
are accessing your Exchange mailbox through an IMAP account. Correct? If so
you must choose Edit-> Purge deleted in Outlook to get rid of the stiked out
items.

Yes, rules created via OWA are all server based. If you are able to use
forward outside the Exchange environment depends on the security settings of
Exchange. By (secure) default it is disabled. Ony your admin can make
changes to allow this on the Exchange server;

Roady,
Sorry for the lack of clarity, having my program be Outlook and their
program be Outlook WebAccess DOES make it goofy for me.

The setup instructions provided by the site said simply to select "Exchange
server" so I didn't realize it was basically IMAP and should have started
with my IMAP knowledge. "Edit > Purge" wow, talk about embarrassing!!

You answered my questions completely, much appreciated.
