Outlook w/ exchange practical mailbox size......

Hi all,
I know that outlook could theoretically have an .ost in the terabytes, but
practically, has anyone noticed when size starts dropping performance? I've
got a client with the 3GB mailbox on exchange, with outlook 2003 (running in
cached mode). The server is 2003 (windows and excahnge). He had speed (laggy
screen changes , etc in outlook) issues on his old PC, but we've since
changed his PC to a newer one. He does also have .pst files open as well. 3
of them to b exact. and some of them are quite large on their own.

Thanks in adance for any input,
Justin

Yes and this is expected when size and item count increases*. Since you
didn't mention if this PC was a laptop or desktop, one of the best
recommendations I can make is defrag the drive and exclude the PST/OST
file(s) from antivirus real-time scanning. Outside of that, putting the
OST/PST on the fastest spinning drive (e.g. 4200 vs 5400 vs 7200 vs 10000
rpm) helps.

* By this I mean, a folder (e.g. Inbox) in Outlook that has 3000 items vs
10000 items will render faster.

ps - watch for addins as well (e.g. scan, index) will also add to a laggy
feel
