Outlook to Outlook Express

Hi!

We seem to be having major problems with Outlook's address book not
recognising emails which I know for a fact are in the address book. My
boss is blowing his top.

We have only recently moved from OE to Outlook. I'm just wondering if
it is possible/easy to transfer address book and message data back to
OE from Outlook? Can anyone help please?

Sorry, should have mentioned it is Outlook 2002 (and same for OE). Win
XP Pro.

Sure. In OE, click FIle>Import>Messages, select Microsoft Outlook, and
click Next to move the messages. It's a little more complex for addresses.
You can export them as a CSV and then import that.

Well, I've done everything to do with setting up and transferring the
data. I had a problem with the address book not being in the right
order, but managed to correct that with help from this news group. If
my boss used the actual To button, scrolled down then selected the
person, he would get the right information. The problem is he insists
on typing in the names (which are correct), then he says that they are
not being recognised.

Thank you. That is very good to know. I may just suggest to him we
abandon Outlook and go back to OE.

What does he do after typing the names? What does he expect to happen?

After typing a name, press CTRL-K to resolve the name. If autoresolution is
enabled, tabbing out of the To field will also attempt to resolve the name.
If he wants Outlook to suggest names as he types (using addresses he's
resolved in prior messages), he can enable that option as well.
I may just suggest to him we
abandon Outlook and go back to OE.

If all you're interested in is mail and no requirement for sharing
mailboxes, then there's little reason to use anything other than OE (or
Eudora or Thunderbird or Netscape Communicator or...).

He expects the name he typed to be recognised and the email to go off.
Instead, Outlook cannot recognise names which are in the address
book.

Another colleague has also mentioned that both she and my boss see "an
alert box" which tells them "the message could not be sent". I've not
seen this myself so do not know if it is a problem with the Outlook or
the Norton anti virus scanning the outgoing message.

We cannot share emails as we have no server - just three computers
networked together.

Recognized how? If he types in a full Internet address, Outlook will accept
it as-is. It will believe what he typed. If he enters a name from the GAL,
at any point he can press CTRL-K and have Outlook show him all the names in
the GAL that match. This also applies to all Contacts folders he has
enabled as address books. Can you be explicit in what he types, what he
clicks, and what he sees as oposed to what he believes he should see?

CTRL-K has nothing to do with autocompletion. CTRL-K is the "Check Names"
function which attempts to resolve, not complete, the address.
