Outlook to Outlook Express e-mail archive imports

After having successfully re-imported OE e-mail archives into my re-install
of OE, I now feel something of a roll.

On my current PC I have the e-mail archives from my previous PC (both
machines XP, the previous one last patched circa May-June 2005).

I would very much like to get my old Outlook e-mail folders imported into my
current OE application. I have previously looked into this at quite some
length, and the conclusion I often came to from the web, was that you somehow
had to have both Outlook and OE installed on your PC, in order to import
Outlook mail archives (the .pst files) into OE (???).

As it happens a few years back I did have both apps on my PC and the import
failed. It might have been due to the hidden/system folder issue I faced in
the last day or two, I don't know.

Has anyone imported .pst files into OE, and is it a straight forward import?
Or is this thing about needing both the apps on your PC to facilitate the
import true?

Thx!

There is an import option for Outlook in Outlook Express. I have no idea
what the requirements are for it to work.

I go into Outlook Express Import,

It asks what programme I am importing from, I select Microsoft Outlook

When I click Next, up pops an error message headed 'Import Messages',
reading...

'Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. An error has occured ''Ok''

Any ideas anyone? :-B

Had you been using Outlook successfully on this PC before? Or are these
folders from a different PC that had Outlook on it? Do you have the
installation CD for Outlook? (Or for Microsoft Office, which normally
includes Outlook?) Do you want to use Outlook again if you are able to?
Or do you only want to use Outlook Express (for whatever reason)?

Hi Daave,

I had Outlook on a previous machine. When it died (2005) I took out the HDD
and re-pinned it to be a slave to the HDD in the new PC. The system went a
bit schizo having two OS's, so I copied all data fro the old HDD to the new
HDD and disconnected the old one.

So my old Outlook archives (the .pst files) are in a subdirectory on my
current HDD, Outlook is no longer available, and I am using OE nowadays.

I don't want to use Outlook again. Rather I want to get my old Outlook
folders imported into my current OE.

It's strange because it appears to offer me the option to import the Outlook
folders into OE, but then at the first step (selecting 'Import Outlook
archive') it fails with the 'Mapi client' error mentioned.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful!
