Outlook Tasks displayed in Calender

G

Guest

I use the Outlook Today within Outlook and want to have the ability to view
my tasks within the calender view. When I go to my calender I would like
there to be an overlap option to where one can view both calender items and
task items through the 'Calender view'.

So, click View>Taskpad

Bill, Thank you for the response. Actually I have tried that option, where it
shows the actual task pad. However, I want the option to view my task items
within the same scheme as the calender. When I view the calender by the whole
month, I would like to see all the scheduled holidays and stuff, along with
notated task items.

You've added requirements that were not in your original suggestion. It's
difficult for anyone to suggest a solution when the requirements keep
changing. Also, expect SPAM and viruses now that you publiced your email
address in a public forum.

Brian, I mean.....My recommendation was to Microsoft where the idea was also
posted on the community. Basically, I just wanted to have a "one-stop shop"
option within Outlooks Calender, in order to view Task and Calender items
within the same view without being in the TaskPad mode.

Brian -
I have the same question and I fully understood what Mark was asking in his
original query.

Outlook should be able to display Tasks within the calendar. I personally
have searched every control and option to do that but have never found a way
to get tasks to appear in their specific day on the calendar view. It would
be a REQUIRED option feature so you could print a complete calendar for daily
use when away from the office.

Outlook 2007 will have a unified display showing your calendar, today's
appointments, and tasks. Very cool.

Robert, Thanks for being one of the only ones to verify my complaint or
recommendation....I figured they would lean on just adding this feature to a
newer edition of Outlook..Wow after 5 months someone else responded...yea!!!

no, not really. uit shows a list, but it's not what most people want.
Outlook 2007's to do list probably won't satisfy everyone either, but it's a
start.

in older versions, print the calendar with the task list visible.

Doesn't "Outlook Today" already accomplish this?

Milly, Hello I saw this post a few weeks ago however now I am curious, I test
drove the Outlook 2007 a few minutes ago trying to add several tasks. It
showed my tasks however they were not integrated into the calender as stated
in the post. I went to Tasks and they were there however listed nowhere
else. All test drives additions I made showed and stuck throughout the test
drive except the Tasks being Associated within the Calender. Thanks

Robert, just to inform you, I test drove Outlook 2007 on-line and as Tilly
stated in the last post, Tasks are not integrated into the Calender. I am
unsure whether this was an oversite prior to allowing test drives, however as
of now, on the test drive my created Tasks stuck and displayed everywhere
else however did not show up within the Calender.

there is a task pane at the bottom of the day and week views for the tasks
with a due date and the to-do list on the right.

I did not say they were all in one item, I said that Outlook 2007 offers a
unified "Display" of these items so you do not need to keep switching
between folder views. THere is nothing on the horizon to integrate Tasks
and calendar since they are different types of Outlook items. If this is
important to you, you may want to check out Taskline which offers
integration with the calendar. http://www.taskline.info

Please explain this clearer if you would. I go on to my calendar in day view
and in week view and I see no "task pane" at the bottom.

Mark, Brian, et. al.

I agree with where I hope this is going. You see my typical tady consists
of secheduled meetings which can go on a calendar. But I have tasks to do as
well. Some of the tasks are open and can be completed at will without a real
time constraint, other must be completed by a deadline. For example, I have
meeting today at 8:30, 11:00, 2:00, 2:15. The calendar handles those fine.
I also have several items on my task list that can be done anytime I just
need the reminder by having them on my list. But, I have recurring tasks
that occur at the same time each week, month, or year that must be finished
by a certain date and time. I don't want to schedule a time of day to do the
task I just want it on my list to finish today. Examples, I am an accountant
so on 7/5/7 I want to complete the 2nd quarter form 941 and schedule the
electronic payment of employment taxes for state and federal withholding. It
must be done that day (in my mind) but not at a specific time of day like a
meeting. Then, I want a printout illustrating my appointments, scheduled
tasks, and unscheduled tasks for today, or the week, or the month. In one
glance I want to answer the question, "What does my day (week or month) look
like?" Thank you.

Stan,

Have you tried adding them as an all-day event on your calendar? When
I do this it shows up on the top of the day, before the point where
the times start. I have always used this as a reminder that I had to
do something on a certain day, but it was not a scheduled appointment.
Hope this helps!

Thank you Patty this is a good idea. I have also purchased TimeLine and it
looks very promising thus far.

Wow- it looks like the friendly response people get when posting queries is
in stark contrast to the attitude encountered when posting suggestions for
improvements.

I am surprised that you do not understand the requirement here, especially
since at least one of Outlook's principle rivals, Lotus Notes, provides
exactly this functionality, which was used at my previous firm. Any ongoing
open tasks or open tasks with no start or end date appear in the current day
on the calendar, before all of the appointments. Tasks with an end date in
the past show up red (overdue), and tasks with a future start date show up in
the calendar view on the day they are due to start. Completed tasks are
greyed out, and remain permanently (or until they are deleted) on the day on
which they are completed.

I stumbled onto this suggestion trying to find out how to enable just such a
functionality in Outlook, as I find this is a very useful feature. Most tasks
are time-bound (if you didn't have a time limit, you probably wouldn't get
around to the task at all). A calendar shows a series of days that follow
each other in time. Put the two together, and bingo!

Setting appointments for these tasks would be inappropriate, as there is no
necessity for them to be done at a specific moment in time, only BY a given
date. Likewise, setting them as all-day events is just a work-around to make
up for a deficiency in the program, and lacks the flexibility and
functionality suggested.
