Outlook takes 12 seconds to open each email.

I bought a new machine. I copied my pst file from my old
machine. Now when I open an email message it takes 10 to
14 seconds to open the email! When I hit the arrow to go
to the previous message, it again takes an average of 12
seconds to open the email.

On my old machine (1/3 the processor and 1/2 the memory of
the new machine), email's open instantly.

I have 'compacted' the pst file.
I have run the SCANPST.EXE. (it found and fixed minor
errors)
I have archived old messages.
I have the current pst file down to 114,000 k.

Please, what is this problem?

Thanks,
Roger

Did you try disabling Messenger integration in Outlook? It's an option
in Outlook.

YEAH! That was it! Messenger integration is off, and
everything is like on a 10 milisecond response now. WOW,
that integration is like a 1,000% performance hit for
Outlook 2002.

Thank you!

Hey, maybee you can help with my other problem... When I
open IE, it instantly gives me 'the page cannot be
displayed' error. I have to 'refresh' and msn.com will
open. Also on any popup I have, it never finds it on the
first try, I have to refresh any new browser window.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Roger

See if you are getting lots of lost packets. Run the following:

ping -n 100 <url>

where <url> is wherever you want to connect, or use your ISP's web site
or yahoo.com. See how many packets get lost. Even if the delay is
small, a lot of lost packets means lots of retries which means more
chance of timeouts.

Have you tried purging your browser's temp file cache?

If you have an always-on highspeed connection, like cable or DSL,
configure IE to always check for new contents on a web page (Internet
Options -> General -> Temp Internet Files -> Settings -> Every visit to
page).

If you have a firewall, temporarily disable it to check if first-time
page downloads become more successful. Firewalls always slow down
communications. If the firewall has app rules then delete the one(s)
for IE and recreate them.

Ok... 100 pings to two urls... 0 packets lost

Yes, I always have the 'every visit to page' set in IE ( am a web developer

Tried dumping my browser cache

I have a linksys router w/ firewall. I had not suspected it though, becasuse two other machines are also on that router, and do not get the same problem

Still get the classic 'The page cannot be displayed' when I open a new browser

Thanks
Roge
