Outlook Stuck in Outbox and Keeps Sending

J

Using XP-Pro with all updates except for Service Pack 3. Using Outlook
2003.
Every time I send an email, it gets stuck in the outbox, therefore keeps
sending. I can shutdown and restart which allows me to delete the mail in
the outbox (if done quickly), but it keeps happening. I've rebooted the
computer and still have the same issue. I'm scanning for viruses but have
found none.

I've exported all my mail to a separate pst for safety.

What would cause this issue?

Uninstall your antivirus program and reinstall it without the mail scanning
feature. That's the usual culprit for the symptom you describe.

That was my first thought too.
I have the mail part turned off now and rebooted a few times, so I'm not
sure that is the cause.
If I uninstall Norton, I may never be able to re-install it (because of the
key code)?
Do you still think that is the issue?
Any other suggestions?

Interesting.....
I exported all of the data out and closed down the program. I opened
Outlook and imported the data back as before. It seems to be working great
now. I don't understand it but it is working.

Thanks again for your reply.

For some AV programs (and I think NAV is one), disabling the mail scanning
isn't enough. You must uninstall the entire AV program and reinstall it
without the mail scanning feature. That's why I suggested you do that.

Before you uninstall it, click Help>About. Does the keycode show there?
Why would you not have your key?

And by doing so, you've lost some data.

I have the key, I was just worried about re-installing with the same key.
But the issue has been resolved. Thanks

Why do you say I've lost some data?
I have the same number of emails in my outlook before and after.

Importing and exporting ALWAYS loses data. While your mail may appear to be
intact, at least some of the dates on them have changed and some Contact
data most definitely has been lost. Import and export are only when
transferring data between Outlook and some application OTHER THAN Outlook,
not for transferring between Outlook and Outlook.

I would think that you have a better chance of loosing data going to another
application. Outlook to Outlook should be perfect. However, I will take
you at your word. I can only assume that I've lost some header information
and that's not important to me.

Thanks
