Hi. When typing text in an email the CPU on the PC maxes out at 100% and the
PC appears to freeze. In a few seconds the text appears and he CPU % drops
untill you hit more keys.... Anyone have an thoughts on what this may be. It
is OUtlook 2003

Mathew,

I look after many systems for my customers and noticed that this started
happening about three weeks ago. I strongly suspect that one of the updates
from Microsoft has caused this problem. Every computer that I visit that has
Outlook 2003 has this problem. We need Microsoft to supply a fix for this. I
suggest that as many people as possible contact Microsoft to ask for a fix.
The more people that apply pressure the more likely that a speedy fix will be
provided. Good luck.

Mathew,

I managed to get and answer today regarding this. The answer is:

931768 is the culprit. Uninstalling that returns Outlook to normal.

I was correct about it being one of the Windows Updates and a fix is being
worked on at present.

Good Luck Ray Worley

I have Office 2000 and having the same problem..I have no update #931768. I
have an update with numbers close to that 932168, but not the 931768.

I am also having all the same issues as described here and I am not very
computer savvy. Got any ideas to help me?
Thanks,
Donna

Ah, if only your answer worked for me. I have been having the same problem
with Outlook 2007 for the past few weeks. I am running XP SP2. I have and
have removed 931768. I have restarted my system. The freeze still happens
while composing emails, perhaps only when receiving messages from my ISP.
It's hard for me to be sure. It happens both on my machine and on my wife's
machine, but since she spends more time writing emails than I do, it happens
to her more often. She can't be sure whether it only happens if the ISP is
sending her a message.

For a while, I thought that I could regain our sanity by reverting to Office
2003. I'm sorry to see that even that is unlikely to help

Hi Matthew:

For your information. This problem also appears in Outlook 2007 but it's
worse: the program locks up and you never get back in control until you kill
the Outlook process. Here is the answer that I have made to a thread titled
"OL 2007 freezes while composing message" (started on May, 13rd).

"
I have also been hit by this bug. This always happens while typing a
message: you enter the space character, the caret disappears and never comes
back, the Outlook process starts to consume 100% of the CPU time and you
have to kill it and restart Outlook.

This seems to be related to macros. I have one single macro installed in
Outlook: a small piece of code that ensures that items moved to the deleted
Items folder are always marked as read. If I go to Tools | Trust Center and
disable all macros, the problem never occurs. If I re-enable my macro, I'm
sure that the bug will appear at least once during my work day. I have
written this macro when I was using Outlook 2003. No problem. So I know that
this code is ok. Obviously, Outlook 2007 has introduced a new problem.

PS: If any Outlook MVP is interested about this problem and wants details,
I'm ready to help. I'm not an Outlook specialist, so I guess this issue
should rather be reported to MS by an Outlook MVP (if not already done).

Regards.

I have had a similar problem, only it doesn't totally freeze my computer. I
have to restart Outlook. The mssage body is fine, it's in the subject line
that I have problems. Certain letters like c, v, t, and h will suddenly not
work until I leave and come back. I have to copy my email and paste it back
in just incase there isn't a draft so I don't have to type it all out again.
I just posted about this a few minutes ago in "Outlook 2007 and missing
letters when typing"
