Outlook Startup error message

Larry

I'm getting an error message when I startup Outlook 2003 -
I had the same problem with Outlook 2002, and upgrading
hasn't fixed it.

I get an alert box saying;

The add-in "c:\program files\mcafee\mcafee
viruscan\scanmail.dll could not be installed or loaded.
The problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on
the Help menu."

I haven't had Viruscan installed for a couple of years
now, and I just used a registry cleaning program to
remove all traces of entries related to this program from
the registry, but no luck. I've run Detect and Repair
multiple times in both Outlooks 2002 and now twice in
Outlook 2003, with no change.

Any ideas?

Thanks much,

Larry

Use Microsoft Search to search all files (turn on hidden
files as well- it will ask after not finding it in
the 'normal' files) for any file that has mcafee in it.
Although I hear registry files are fragile I remember
from pastthat they can first br backed up, then edited.
Try REGEDIT if indeed you find any offending "mcaffee"
files.

BTW I amnot a serious hacker so take my advice under
your own free will.

Good Luck!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions, but I'm still
getting the startup message. I believe I've removed every
reference mentioned in the manual uninstall documents you
recommended, and also searched the entire disk for files
that had the filename in it, but to no avail.
After cleaning registry, I restarted the system and even
ran the "detect and repair" utility.

Still getting the startup error message.

How can this be?

In that case, you may be better off to ask for assistance from the
McAfee Support team.
