I am trying to recover messages and contacts from a saved "Personal
Folders(1).pst" file. Whwn I try to import the file I receive an error
message stating it "is not a personal folders file." Is there anything I can
do?

Provide enough information for someone to tell how this file was created and
transported.
You never import PST files. You open them.

Nreo 4Russ,

I had burned a copy to DVD as a data file (from OL 2000 with Nero 4) before
reformatting my hard drive. I am currently running OL 2003. I then copied
the file to my reformatted drive. Tried openning and still the same message.
I have even run the Scanpst program and it does not recognise the file.

If you put it on a CD it now has a read only attribute. Remove that.

Did that. Before I tried to open.

Instead of torturing us by trickling in the relevant information at a
glacial pace, just post precisely all the steps you used to create and
corrupt this file. Since you know what you did and we don't, you hold all
the cards. Likely culprits include exporting the file, copying it without
Outlook being fully closed, or a burning process that corrupted the file.
Have you checked the file for errors with the Inbox Repair Tool?
