Outlook not responding

Tried to view a message while Outlook was downloading messages yesterday. It
stopped downloading and remains unresponsive to any and all commands. It
opens, clicking on Receive makes the little icon in bottom right go around
like it's doing something, but the messages do not download and I can't do
anything else with the program either. What do I do?
