outlook news group reader problem

YUU LIU

Hi, I have a question about the way messages are organized in the outlook
news group reader. It's sorted with a 'sent' field (last time a message is
posted on a subject).

I really want to have 'first posted' field (first time a message is posted
as a subject) to sort the messages so I can read something from begining to
the end. Because for some heavy volume news group, I often only see 'Re: ..'
as the subject and I have no idea what the original post is about.

Please help.

G'Day YUU LIU,

In Outlook Express, please check the Menu:
View>Current View>Group Messages by Conversation
(should be ticked - click it if not ticked)

Does that help?

Hi Pat, yes I have view->current view->group messages by conversation 'on'
(ticked)...

Now I realized the problem is there is a limit on number of messages to
download (in my case 600). So if the original message falls out of the 600
range (too old), a thread starts with 'Re: ...' instead of the original
post. How to fix this annoying problem?

G'Day again YUU LIU,

Do all this (once):
In the left-hand pane: Select the Server "msnews.microsoft.com"
In the right-hand pane: Click the "Settings" button and click "Headers Only"
For each listed newsgroup that you want
synchronised
tick it's box.(..I have them all
ticked.)
Click the "Synchronize Account" button, and
wait.......
first time round will take several
minutes

In future, every time you start Outlook express, you can get everything up
to date by:
In the left-hand pane: Select the Server "msnews.microsoft.com"
In the right-hand pane: Click the "Synchronize Account" button, and wait.......
each time it will take a couple of
minutes.

Does THAT help?

PS: Sometimes people create a "New Post", instead of "Reply Group" -
This breaks the "Conversation".
