outlook name check procedure

hi all,
i am using outlook 2003 and i am finding the following strange:
when i create a contact 'in my contact folder' (person1) and add this
person's email address and phone number then save this contact, Now when i i
want to write a new mail and in the TO field i type only 'per' and hit the
check name button outlook will find 'person1' successuffly along with his
email address. Now if i go back to the same contact and add his fax number
and save it then write another email and go through the same procedure,
Outlook will list TWO contacts for 'Person1' one of the contacts will say
SMTP as an Email Type and the second one will say FAX. Now, for one contact
it sounds silly but i have more than 800 therefore i am getting 1600 in my
Check Names Dialog Box.

is this standard with outlook 2003? is there any setting i can use to get
rid of that?

thanks

Outlook considers fax numbers to be valid electronic addresses, since there
are many client- and server-based components that can use such addresses.

One method to hide fax numbers from the address book is to prefix the fax
number with one or more letters (maybe B for business fax, H for home, O for
other). If the fax number begins with a letter, Outlook won't show it in the
address book. This definitely works in Outlook 2000 and 2002.

There are a couple of utilities that can help you hide fax numbers from the
address book. See http://www.rsoutlook.com/us/rshifa.htm and
http://www.sperrysoftware.com/Outlook_Solutions.htm (Hide Fax Numbers).

Another way to avoid avoid having fax numbers appear in the address book is
simply not to enter data in the fax fields. Put fax numbers in some other
(non-phone) fields.

Microsoft has a Knowledgebase article at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=305361 that explains further.
