Outlook Messages with a red 'x'

I installed XP service pack 2. Now in my Outlook Express
messages imbedded pictures show with a box with a red 'x'
in it. This did not happen prior to service pack 2.
Has this happened to anyone else and how can it be
repaired?

Thanks, Kris

Open Outlook Express and from the toolbar select:
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck "Block images
and other external content in HTML e-mail", then
click on Apply.

Is that a sp2 thing? My OE (version 6) has no such checkbox.

It is a security precaution. Such embedded pics in malicious email
often conceal a nasty bit of code that is phoning home. If you are
satisfied that mail is genuine, you can uncheck the box at its Tools -
Options - Security; 'Block Images. . . in HTML Email'

I have had this problem with a variety of graphics, and cannot determine the
aegis. I can get two messages from the same sender, both witrh graphics
embedded, and one will have the red x's in all the rectangles, while the
other displays the graphics properly .
The problem seems worse after installing SP2. I have the "block images..."
in OE unchecked. I have sought a solution to this for two years, to no
avail. MS knows about it, and was to have addressed it in SP2. . . . . . DUH!
