Outlook malfunctions

Running OL2002 SP3 on WinXP Pro SP2, POP3 acct (not Exchange). Messages in
outbox have sent 30+ times but are not removed. Setting offline does not
allow me to delete items in outbox. User is nearing 2G limit for OL2002;
tried moving some emails to other folders. Will not move, get message "The
items were copied instead of moved because the original items could not be
deleted". Trying to delete any emails from any folder gives error: "The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists,
restart Outlook." I have run inbox repair tool, have run outlook repair.
Neither has fixed problem. Haven't created new profile/changed default
delivery location to try to clear outbox as problem is bigger than just email
stuck in outbox. What to do?

First, make sure you are NOT scanning mail with an antivirus program. Next,
lengthen the server timeout value on the Advanced tab of your account
properties.

At least one of the solutions here is guaranteed to remove the stuck items
from Outbox:

Kathleen, Thanks, with method 4 I was able to delete the stuck messages.
However, see reply to Brian for continuing troubles.

Brian, Thanks, method 4 was successful. However, I am still having troubles.
Guess I should have been clearer in original post: I cannot delete ANY email
from ANY folder, get the error as originally posted.

Now, I'm also getting the 0x8004060C error because the .pst has reached it
size limit, and no new email can be downloaded. So if the limit has been
reached but I can't delete any emails, where does that leave me? Can I just
create a new .pst to use? Will that give user access to both old and new
emails, and what about address book? Creating a new profile doesn't give
access to existing emails. I have a license for OL2003 (through SBS 2k3); any
gotchas I need to watch out for since it's obviously time to upgrade this
user?

As for A/V, we have no other scanning of inboud mail so will continue
running A/V. Have not had problems with other users or with this user until
today.

Finally dawned on me that I could try to use MDB Viewer to delete email from
other folders and decrease file size. Was able to delete some old emails;
when viewing Personal Folder, those emails no longer show up. However, .pst
size has not been reduced so OL is still non-functional. Ran inbox repair
tool (scanpst) but didn't fix the problem.

You might have to use this:

Well, 25 M on the MS repair tool didn't do the trick. Had already invested
enough time on this problem so just upgraded to OL2003. But since everyone
focused on the stuck messages, and I didn't get any replies on "gotchas" or
research upgrading before I did it, I learned the hard way that the pst file
doesn't upgrade to 2003 format automatically. But all is now well, just took
a few days to have time to respond and finish this thread.
