outlook linked with outlook express

Hi.
For some time now, I have realized that my outlooked is linked with my outlook express. Any email I receive in outlook express appears in my outlook. So when I open up outlook, I see all OE emails and contacts. Why is this happening? How can I stop this? I want the list of emails and contacts in outlook to be completly separate from what is in outlook express.
Thanks
Steve

It's not that O and OE are linked, you have both set up to use the same email
account, whatever that is. In outlook, go tools/email accounts and change it
to the email account you want.

It would also appear to be the case that you have elected to keep a copy of
mail on the server.
Since Outllook uses a completely different process to store Contacts, I'm
not sure what you are seeing with regards addresses on Outlook Express,
unless you Imported your Express address book

In Microsoft Outlook, I have nothing, that is no email account listed. So Outlook shouldn't be getting any emails whatsoever.

Where I really notice this is via my HP Ipaq which is synchronized with my Outlook (not with my outlook express.) What I now see is that every single contact that I have in outlook express now appears in the contacts in my ipaq, each time I synchronize my ipaq with my Outlook. Since I use Outlook Express for my email, this can only mean that somehow Outlook is getting its contacts from Outlook Express, somehow importing and updating them each time Outlook is run. This is my problem. And it does this even if I for instance delete all of my Outlook contacts. It refreshes itself (from outlook express) each time I reload the program.
Thanks
Steve

What version of Outlook? Outlook 2000 actually uses the Windows Address
Book just like OE and for that version and Outlook 2002, you can modify the
WIndows Address Book to use your Outlook Contacts folder as the repository
so that Outlook and OE share the same contacts and I suspect it is this
latter that you have done.

I have Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-3 and Outlook express 6. I wonder if what you say about them being linked could be happening? How would I find out?
Thanks!
Steve

Open the WIndows Address Book and click Tools>Options. There should be a
checkbox there to enable sharing the Outlook Contacts folder.

How do I open the Windows Address Book???

On Outlook Express, click the Address button or in Windows, click Start>Run
and enter WAB.EXE in the Open field.
