Outlook keeps freezing and crashing

For the past two weeks, I have had problems with Outlook continuously
crashing or freezing, or not responding when I try to maximize it from the
task bar. I've called tech support and they gave me a new .pst file. That
has helped the frequency of Outlook crashing and freezing drop some, but it
still remains unstable. I think I need to do a uninstall/reinstall, but the
program came pre-installed and the computer did not come with any disks. Any
suggestions? It's Outlook 2002.

Are you running any synch software (for a PDA) or fax software? What is the
size of your PST? Are there any error messages and/or numbers? Have you
checked your application event viewer for errors related to Outlook or
Office?

I just went through something similar.

I cleaned out all the junk files from the user's profile and
defragmented the hard-drive.

It's gotten better - crashed only once in the past week. (this is good
for outlook!).

I also put it to use plain text and NOT use ms Word as the email editor.
Simple is better, more reliable.

hope this helps,

Are you runnning the spell checker? Its wise to save the message to drafts
before running spell checker because it will often crash the application and
you loose the message. Disable automatic spell checking on send and just use
F7 when you need to.

Actually, after I posted this message, I found a box that contained the
Microsoft Office disk! I un-installed and re-installed and nothing changed.
In fact, the crashing is increasing to once or twice an hour sometimes! I
think MS Word is the word processor for Outlook. I do a disk defrag once a
month. What can I clean out directly out of Outlook?

Actually, I do have a synch software program for Outlook called
OfficeCalendar. It synchs Outlook Calendar activities between my desktop and
my boss's laptop. How do I find out the size of my .pst?
