Outlook installs with no calendar

i've just installed Office XP. all other programs seem to have
installed fine, but when i open Outlook, i get the error message
"unable to open your default email folders" followed by "would you like
to open your default file system folder instead". also, strangely,
under 'tools', the 'options' is grayed out.
there is no calendar, no contact list or anything. just a list of
drives.

does anybody know what is going on, and how i can properly install
Outlook?

system: Tablet PC with Windows XP.
also, i previously had a 60-day trial of Office 2003, which was working
fine while i used it temporarily, but i uninstalled it before
installing Office XP.
