Outlook folders show unread message # but no messages

Eddie Llamas

I have an e-mail box that has subfolders that have the
unread numbers next to them but when you go into the
folders themselves, there are no messages int there,
unread or read.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

This is a bug I believe. Started happening to all our
test machines after we applied the Tech Refresh update.

Hi Eddie,

Thank you for the posting. As you indicated you have an e-mail box that
has subfolders that have the unread numbers next to them but when you go
into the folders themselves, there are no messages int there, unread or
read.

Based on your desription, it is possible that there is some corruption in
the .pst or in the profile. Regarding this issue, you can try the
following two commands to see if this can clear the issue.

outlook /cleanpst

This is to launche Outlook with a clean pst.

outlook/cleanprofile

This is to remove and recreates default registry keys.

Hope the above information and suggestion helps and answers your question.
If anything is unclear, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Cherry Qian

Hi Eddie,

Thank you for the posting. Please take your time to try my suggestion. If
anything is unclear or anything further we can help you with, please let me
know.

In addition, if it is Outlook 2002 or 2000 CW mode, you can create a new
profile to test.

Just an update on this question. Right mouse click and choose mark as read and this will get rid of this false message without having to mess with your registry or look to clean anything. Let's not over think this stuff!

you really think they didn't know that?

im with you guys, using Cisco unity express to check VM's through Outlook 2007. There is a new message indicator [(1)] next to the inbox, but no messages.

Anyone got anything on this yet?
