i have set up a new identity on my outlook express account for my partner.
e-mail can be sent from this new identity but not received.
when i try to send an e-mail to this new identity a message appears that
states "recipient rejected by server 550 invalid recipient error no
0x800ccc79
can anyone help ?

My guess would be that you have their e-mail address wrong, or their account
is misconfigured on the e-mail server. The "550 invalid recipient" says
that the e-mail server knows nothing about the e-mail address you're trying
to send to.

Have you set up the new account at your ISP? If the name is different than
yours (for receiving) you must set
up a secondary account at your ISP.

The above mentioned, is not the best way to do what you want.
_MOST_ ISP's will give you _usually_ up to five mail boxes.
Contact your ISP.

my isp is virgin. my e-mail adress is (e-mail address removed). i have set
up a second identity (e-mail address removed)
i can successfully send an e-mail from (e-mail address removed) to
(e-mail address removed). BUT i cannot send an e-mail from
(e-mail address removed) to (e-mail address removed) . when i try to send a
message from lisa, the error message appears.

the message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. the rejected e-mail address was (e-mail address removed) subject
"test" account "gary hescott" server smtp.ntlworld.com protocol smtp. server
response "550 invalid recipient "(e-mail address removed) port 25
secure(ssl) no server error 550 number 0x800ccc79

By "identity" do you mean a new email account or a new Outlook Express
identity (OE File | Identities | Manage identities)?

If you mean a new email account, did you set it up with your ISP or just in
OE? Is ntlworld.com your ISP?

The error you posted has nothing to do with being unable to *receive* mail
but being unable to *send* mail, from what looks to be your email account,
not your partner's. Which leads me to ask...

Is "gary hescott" your email account or your partner's? Is it a
(e-mail address removed) account and are you connected to the internet via
ntlworld.com when sending?

Is your anti-virus application configured to scan outgoing and incoming
mail?

No! You must contact your ISP and set up a secondary account. Each account
has a different name.
Example: (e-mail address removed) (e-mail address removed)

i have now wiped off everything except my account. i can send and receive
e-mails. my e-mail address is (e-mail address removed)
my isp is virgin. virgin took over ntl. so although the e-mail address is
(e-mail address removed) it is actually VIRGIN who now own ntl.
it is my account with ntl. the default mail account is
(e-mail address removed)
now i wish to make it possible for my girlfriend to send and receive
e-mails. i dont know if she can send e-mails using her own name. i.e send
and receive e-mails as (e-mail address removed) ? i have tried to set up an
identity of (e-mail address removed) by using FILE-IDENTITIES-ADD NEW
IDENTITY.
i have then gone into TOOLS-ACCOUNTS-ADD-MAIL-DISPLAY NAME (lisa
gordon)E-MAIL ADDRESS ([email protected]) MY INCOMING SERVER (pop3)
INCOMING MAIL( pop.ntlworld.com) OUTGOING MAIL (smtp.ntlworld.com)
that is how i set it up. i did not contact my isp. i didnt think i had to
phone the isp (virgin) every time i added an e-mail address. i guess i will
phone them tomorrow. (£1 per minute....i suppose thats why they make you
call them !!!) anyhow, that is how i set up the account and it was ok for
lisa to send messages, but lisa's address ([email protected]) could
not receive messages. not really much use if she can send but not receive.
thanks for your help anyway. best wishes gary

Did you establish (e-mail address removed) as a secondary email account with
ntlworld or did you just make it up and put it in OE, thinking it would
work?

Are you connected to the internet via ntlworld.com or virgin.net when you're
sending from the (e-mail address removed) account?

P

PA Bear [MS MVP]

You have to contact your ISP (whoever it is now) to establish a new email
address for her (i.e., a secondary email account for your mailbox), you
can't just make one up and use it, Gary.

Sure! Lots of people in the groups with OE in their title can help.
Notice this group LACKS that designation.
