OUTLOOK EXPRESS

I am having trouble opening outlook express at times, reboot seems to fix the
problem but sometimes when I try to go back into it it will not open and this
can even happen off line. Also sometimes the screen freezes and I have to
turn computer off at tower to get out of it. i used network diagnostic tool
to test my network and this failed even on line but yet I am on line and have
no trouble with internet explorer. My computer is up to date and I use dial
up connection. Can anyone help me please.

you did not say which version of OE you are using, and most likely you will
get more help in an OE group. Have you used the file | folder | compact
command lately?

Thanks and yes I have used the folder compact command but only after it
started playing up. Have also noticed that the mouse curser is sticking at
times and this doesnt only happen in outlook express and the only way out is
to turn off at the tower. I had it into computer shop a couple of weeks ago
because it wasnt booting up, they said there was a bit of dirt on the memory
I think. It is Outlook express 6. I also changed the keyboard and mouse just
in case it was one of them causing the fault, but it jammed up on me in
hotmail just a while ago.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
