Outlook Express Web Links

J

JustUs

When I click on a live link in one of my OE emails I get the following error:
The instruction at "0x036501d9" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The
memory could not re "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

The error occurs as IE7 is trying to load the page. The dialog box refers to
iexplore.exe with instructions to reinstall the application if it persists.
It persists and I reinstalled. NO joy!

OE and IE both work OK otherwise.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a problem using those products then why not post to their
newsgroups & not the XP one?

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

Sure you could search Google & get your answer or the Microsoft Kbase
articles too

Maybe this:

Get hyperlinks in OE to open IE:

I did a google, and a microsoft.... and since it affected both IE and OE and
NOT being the EXPERT, and not wanting to crosspost, I thought this a good
place to start ... ;)

I tried the FIX and MO JOY! Bummer.

I shutdown my AV/SPAM/... software and still had the same results. Links in
other webpages seem to be OK. Also, when I click POST I get a similar error.
I posted on another vendors site and there were no hitches at all.

This isn't a crisis problem, but is a little more than annoying.

Check /everything/ here.

Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express or in Word (Revised 29 Apr-09)

IE8] (Revised 29 Apr-09)

If still no joy:

Courtesy of MVP Frank Saunders. [RIP]

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet
Shortcut) and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path to
iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

If all the above is correct, uncheck: Use DDE.

I found the solution ........

Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Reset, closed IE,
restarted, and all is OK. I enabled the Addons needed and no errors.

Thanks to all for the help and suggestions.... I am surprised that this
didn't appear in the search of the MS site ....

Anyway, thanks again.

Though the solution seemed to have solved the problem, it was only a bandaid.
The real cause is a website checker from PCTools called BrowserDefender. I
verified through uninstall and reinstall 3 times that it was the cause for
the error. Uninstalled - no errors. Installed - error everytime a link is
activated in OE.
