Outlook Express Spontaneously Changes E-Mail settings

J

Jim Cobban

Every so often, and twice in the past 2 weeks, OE has spontaneously changed
the account information for my e-mail. To be specific it changed my POP3
server name from "mail.magma.ca" to "localhost" and my account from
"jcobban" to "jcobban/mail.magma.ca". This had two undesirable side
effects:

1) The POP3 connection failed. Not surprising considering that I am not
running a POP3 server on my desktop!
2) The copy of my inbox on the MTA was not updated to record the fact that
messages had been delivered to me, with the result that every message ended
up being received twice each time the problem occurred.

This is annoying. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this?
One suspicion I have is that it is related to instances where I got the
message "Msimn has performed an illegal operation" which results in OE being
abruptly terminated.

This isn't caused by Outlook Express but by your virusscanner. Check the
documentation on how to disable it.

Note that this is an Microsoft Office Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.
