Outlook Express problems

Tammie

I have been having troubles with Outlook express
freezing once in awhile when switching identities. When I
click on the new identity Outlook express will close but
not reopen. This only happens once in awhile. How can I
solve this problem? Have tried the fixes listed
below,what else can I do?
I had post this problem earlier. Was told about the
Cummulative Update Express 6.0 SP1 (Q331923)patch. I
tried to download it. Got the message that I needed to
download Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 first. When
I tried to download Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1
I kept get the message Windows update file is read only
and needed to be chaged. So I went in to the file
properties and changed to hidden. Tried down load again.
Got the same message. The file had reverted bact to read
only. Tried changing to hidden again. Same result.
Started looking at folder options, did not actually
change anything. But desided to try clicking the install
again. It went through for some reason. Restarted my
computer.
Went to try to install the Cummulative Update Express
6.0 SP1 (Q331923)patch again. Kept get the same message
that I needed to download Internet Explorer 6.0 Service
Pack 1 first.
So I went back to try and reinstall Internet Explorer
6.0 Service Pack 1. I then kept getting the message that
I all ready had a newer version on my computer.
Thought I would try uninstalling Internet Explorer 6.0
Service Pack 1 and trying again. I went to control
panels>add/remove programs and the Internet Explorer 6.0
Service Pack 1 was not listed as it said it would be in
the unistall directions.
Don't know what else to try!!!!
Thank you!

Why don't you just use Windows Update and allow all critical and optional
patches to be loaded. They are loaded in the correct sequence, without any
intervention from you.

I have Windows update set to automatically tell me when I
need new downloads. But apperently for some reason these
are where never part of the update. Need to get Outlook
express to keep from crashing.

1. You already have the content of Q331923 (Oct-02) installed with the
succeeding Q330994 (April-03), which is what the error is telling you.

2. Q330994 itself contains yet another bug causing the problem you and many
others are having. Until this bug is addressed by the OE Team, we're
advised to always leave an Identity via File>Exit and Logoff Identity and
not use File>Switch Identities.

Others have found the Force Identity Logon, which essentially does the same
thing, works for them: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/tips/forceid.htm.

If one of your Identity's is the default Main Identity, which is much more
prone to such problems, you could try replacing it with a new Named Identity
(File>Identities>Add new identity) in hopes of finding more reliability.
Import messages from the old Identity before deleting it
(File>Identities>Manage Identities).
