Outlook Express problem?

I am running Outlook Express 6. When I run "Compact all Folders" it goes
through the normal process but files appear in the recycle bin with a .bak
extension. These files appear to be backup files for the folders. This only
happens on one of my computers but not the others also running Outlook
Express 6.

It is not a big problem since I can just empty the recycle bin but is rather
curious behavior and I would prefer that it not happen.

What you prefer is the last thing on MS' to do list. They hold paying
customers in total disdain. You have downloaded an update for OE that
will set the count back to zero, thereby avoiding the pop up that used
to happen after 100 closings. After you check and make sure that you
haven't lost any messages due to compacting, empty the recycle bin.

Ok, not a big deal but since I compact at least daily and keep my recycle
bin empty I noticed it and wondered what was going on. I also remembered
that I have not had a "dead" period on one of my other computers so I have
not done the critical updates on it yet and I don't have email set up on the
others.

Thanks for your answers.

this was done with one of the recent updates.
the idea is to prevent some of the problems people were having with Compact.
saving a copy of the folders in the recycle bin first.

should be corrected with next SP.
or is fixed in Vista.
