Outlook Express Folder Won't Display

B

Bill Fraser

Somehow, my "Friends" folder in OE got deleted (I assume). I used Norton
Unerase to find all the folders, and restored them. They are now back in my
E-Mail Messages store, but won't come up in OE anywhere. How can I access
all those messages through OE?
Thanks, Bill.

Can you see the folder in OE still? And the messages are in the same place
as your other ones, correct? Is the file named "Friends.dbx"?

Hi Kelli:
Yes, the file is named "Friends.dbx", and I can see it in the folder in "My
Docs" where I have my E-mail stored. I just can't seem to get it to display
in the folders on my Outlook Express Window. I tried to import it, but
can't get at OE directly.
Any ideas?
Thanks for answering.
Bill

Make a backup of the file in another location, then try this.

Try adding the folder in Outlook Express, then close it. This might nuke
the file already in the folder, but that's why we're making a backup. Copy
the file back into the folder with the other mail, then open OE. See if
that does it.

I tried copying to my desktop, and then back in, but no luck. I made up new
blank folders for all my friends (including a new "Friends" folder to put
them in), and ended up with 2 of each in the "My E-Mail" folder in My Docs,
one with "(1) behind it, and the original without. I can put new messages
in the new folders, but can't get any of the old messages back. Maybe I'll
just give up. There's nothing life threatining in any of that stuff anyway,
but it would be nice to be able to get it back.
If you can think of anything else, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks again.
Bill.

Try giving the folder a new name, like Friends2, and rename the file to
Friends2.dbx and see if that does it.

I'm not quite ready to give up - I want to get these back for you if
possible. Worst case scenario, you can open the dbx file in notepad and
still get data from it, but that's not the best solution.

Sorry, Kelli, but that didn't work either. I renamed them as suggested, but
still didn't recover any of the messages. I can try opening them in Notepad
(never thought of that), and get the info I would like to keep. But, as I
said, it's not life threatining stuff. I make a habit of saving any good
family pics or stuff like that, so I have all the good stuff anyway. I did
learn to keep a closer eye on things like that, if nothing else. Thanks
very much for all your help.
Bill.

Sorry I couldn't figure this one out for you - at least you've got the
information, though. :)
