Outlook Express error 0x800C133

I have done a system restore, and an XP repair along with talking to my
internet provider, and I can't get my mail delivered.
It will scan, and start sending, and gets about 58% completed, then shows
the error.

Can anyone help please, thanks.

Could be caused by having an AV scanner actively scanning your email. Turn
off the email AV scan (not the entire system AV scan). It is redundant, and
prone to cause problems with MS Outlook Express.

Are you trying to use Hotmail. This error 0x800C133 has been showing up quite often
today in the newsgroups and it is all associated with Hotmail and the synching of
accounts and Mobile phones to accounts in OE and OL.
Have you changed your settings in your mail client to reflect the new pop3 setting
that are now used to set up Hotmail since Sept 01.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause

Move any mail you wish to save to a local folder you create. Then delete the
problem Inbox as follows.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in
Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options |
View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Inbox.dbx} and
delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined
folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items
folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I
recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Thanks everyone, checked out all the information given, moved and deleted a
lot of messages from the inbox, and it's working great now.

In OE: File | New | Folder. Name it | Clock on Local Folders | OK.

Open the Inbox. Click on one message header to highlight it and the Ctrl + A
will highlight them all.

Left click on these messages and drag them to the folder you just created.
Make more folders if need be and use these for storing messages you do not
want to delete rather than keeping them in the Inbox or Sent Items.

Create the new Inbox as previously mentioned.

Thank you Bruce!! That did the trick. The Inbox was at its 2GB limit.

Many thanks ro Bruce Hagen for his information. I had called Comcast, they didn't know how to fix it. Said to call Microsoft - that at least led me to their website where I found the forums and Bruce--yea I fixed it and it's perfect. Will keep the information on file in case it ever happens again. Thanks again.
