Outlook Express Backup/Restore Messages

I do a monthly normal backup and daily differential backup, including the
Documents and Settings Folder, which includes the Outlook Express Inbox, etc.

However, the daily differential backup is missing the Outlook Express Inbox
(and other folders as well). All are included on the normal backups.

My system recently crashed and was unrestoreable. I therefore lost all my
messages from the first of the month till the crash date. None of the daily
differential backups included the Outlook Express Inbox.

Is this a bug in the backup program or due to something that I may be doing?
Please note that I have Outlook Express running at all times.

Hope someone can help, or offer a solution. I hate to find out quirks like
this the hard way!

Thanks, Kathleen:

I thought I was posting to Outlook Express, and will try now to do so.

But in the event someone else or you can help me further:

- I am using Outlook Express Version 6.00.2600.0000, installed on a new Dell
computer from 1/2005.

- I am using Windows XP Professional, and the Windows Backup Program for my
backups to a DVD drive.

Thanks,

No backup program can backup a file that is open for read/write access by
another program. Reliable backups of any file can be made only when that
file is closed.
