Outlook Express and Switch Users XP

R

RDavid

Hello all,
I have a client who is using XP Pro and OE6.0. They have two users who log
in separately to get their own emails via OE. When both are logged in after
switching users, apparently in the past the switch user screen would show "1
program running" (OE) and "2 Unread Messages", or something like that. They
had been using that as a quick way of knowing to go into one or the other
user when emails were present and if there were no emails, they just left
things alone.

They tell me that "out of the blue" one users display of the "Unread
Messages" no longer displays even when unread emails are present, but the
other users unread messages does display.

Within reason, I don't care why it stopped happening I just want to figure
out how to make it start happening again or at least where the configuration
for the notification is located.

Any help is, as always, appreciated,

Thanks,
Rich

Mail Notification on WinXP Welcome Screen has nothing to do with OE.

Compliments of Kelly:

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To remove an account or to change the count manually:

Start>Run>Regedit>navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.

Well thank you PA Bear!!!!!

I honestly didn't think I'd get a reply to this as it seemed to be one of
those magical things that work and when they don't they never come back
again.

I'll check their registry to see if the values are there or not.
