Outlook Contacts "Filter" question and problem

QUESTION: In Outlook 2003, if I create a filter that uses two fields, does
Outlook treat the conditions as EITHER conditions or as AND conditions? In
other words, will Outlook filter the contacts if either condition is met, or
only if both conditions are met?

PROBLEM: I have successfully created filters using, for instance, an address
field. I would like to create a filter using the NOTES field, specifically,
to filter Contacts where the NOTES field is empty. However, the filter will
not seem to take. It occured to me that perhaps a filter cannot be created
using the NOTES field. Is that true? I will appreciate information and
advice.

Two conditions on different fields will be joined as a logical AND.

I agree with you that the "is empty" condition seems to be nonfunctional as far as the Notes field is concerned. I can't think of a good workaround.

Dear Sue:
Thank you. Is there a way to program an Outlook filter so that the
conditions will be treated as OR instead of as AND?
