Outlook Contacts Do Not display from Fax Wizard

We are using Outlook 2003 with Windows XPPro/SP2.
We exported a vendor list (approx 500 contacts) from
Excel, as Windows-CSV.
Then Imported the file into a contact list.
The view from the Contact List displays the imported
contacts correctly.
However, when using the Fax Wizard to select a Fax
Recipient from the Address Book button, doesn't show the
Contact information.
Also, we imported a small pst (10 contacts or so) into
the same Contact list. These 10 contacts do show up, but
the other 500 do not.
Also, If I edit and save one of the contacts that
previously didn't show up, it will Now show up from the
Address book button.

I really don't want to have to edit 500 contacts manually.

Is there a setting or way to import the contact lists so
they will be displayed?

When you open a Contact Record from these imported Contacts, is the Fax
address resolved (underlined)?
Is the folder into which you imported these Contacts enabled as an email
address book in its properties?

Affirmative. The Records imported from the .pst are
underlined/resolved. The other 500 do not show up.
Also, the records from the pst were Manually created from
within the contact list Program, Exported to a PST, then
imported.

Also, it appears that the properties for this Contact
Folder, does have the option selected to "show this
folder as an email address book."

I just found that if I change just the name of the
contact it doesn't resolve the problem. However if I
select the "Business Fax" item, then save it. "Viola"
the contact appears. Unfortunately, only that one.

Any other Ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Now you've lost me on this convoluted trail.
The other 500?
Define which Contacts show and which don't.
The fact that a newly created Contact appears would indicate a problem with
your import. Importing is never a good way to transfer data unless you
absolutely have to change format.

Sorry for the confusion...
Initially, we imported approximately 500 contacts from a
Windows CSV format. These 500 contacts appear to be fine
when looking at them from within the Oulook Contacts
application. However, they are not visible from within
Outlook eMail Address Book, nor from the Fax Wizard
Address Book option.

In addition to the 500 contacts, we also imported (as a
test) approximately 10 contacts from an outlook PST file.
These 10 contacts are the only visible contacts when
viewing from the Outlook Address Book, or the Fax Wizard
Address Book button.

To add further confusion, we are able to make the 500
contacts visible by individually opening the contact
item, selecting a button like the "Business Fax." Then
saving the item.

This is a quite a cumbersom task to manually update 500
contacts. And we'd like to be able to import future
lists without having to manually update them.

Your previous reply indicates that importing is not a
very good way to transfer data. We would welcome any
other suggestions to transfer data from Excel2003 to
Contacts lists in Outlook2003.

Something must have gone wrong with this import. The most common problem
with imports is the email address getting mapped to the wrong field.
Are you certain that you've examined the actual email field in these
Contacts to make sure it is valid and resolved? Did you import into an
Exchange mailbox or a PST file?
When you need to bring in Contacts from a foreign file format, importing
will be your only option. When bringing in Contacts from an outlook data
file, just open the other data file in Outlook and copy the contacts (i.e.,
don't import them).
