Outlook blocked attachment

George Denton

My boss received and email with an attachment with the following name,
Our_America.wma, Outlook blocked this attachment. Where do I change this
setting to allow .wma files to be sent to his Outlook? We use Outlook 2003,
Exchange 2003 and XP Pro.

Thanks,
George

Did Outlook actually block the attachment or was it trapped by a filter
elsewhere?

According to him, it said that Outlook had blocked the attachment. He
deleted the email. You have to love the end users.

Thanks,
George

To allow blocked attachments in Outlook, enter the following registry entry.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security

Make a new string value and name it Level1Remove. (No period after the
name) For the value, enter the following: .wma

If you want to enter more than one extension, enter them like this: .wma;.url

I am running OUtlook 2003, so you may need to adjust that registry path
where it says 11.0 to whatever your version of Outlook is (maybe 10.0, etc.).

Hope that helped!

PS -- You need to add that registry entry on the PC that is showing that the
attachment is blocked.

As far as I'm aware, that particular file type comes through unless trapped
by an attachment filter at the Exchange level but I'm not using the same
version of Outlook or even Exchange. Could be that newer versions will block
movie files. You should be able to allow certain file types through, though I
don't know the steps for Outlook 2003 (I really have to install it on my
laptop and start practicing, I've upgraded 2 directors and a president
already). Someone else will know and post back to you.

Give the following a go: Start>Control panel>folder options>File
types>Select ".wma" extension - click "Advanced"- clear "Confirm after
download" option.
