Outlook/BCM hangs when using the assistent for sharing a database

Hi,

I'm confronted with a problemtrying to share a BCM database with other
users. I'm using the german version of Outlook/BCM 2003 so I can only guess
what may be the correct designation for the different menu items. I'm trying
to translate/describe them as good as I can.
The exact versions are OL SP1 and BCMv2SP3. The System is WXPSP2 with the
WXPSP2 firewall. With the BCMv2SP3 update BCM is using the SQL Server
Express. I'm using the administrator account for everything.

Ok...the actuall problem is that Outlook/BCM hangs when using the assistent
to share the database. For example I'm choosing 'Share database...' and the
assistent pops up. I'm confirming that I want to share the database. In the
next step I can choose the users I want to share with. If I'm adding a new
user and confirming the add user dialog the software freezes at that point (a
program 'BCMUser.exe' doesn't terminate as seen in the task manager). If I'm
avoiding to add a user I can continue to the next steps. After some dialogs
there appears a short informative summery of tasks which have to be done (it
says it has to tweak the firewall and the sql server network configuration).
If I confirmthe software freezes at that point (a little progress bar dialog
shows up saying generating some exceptions in the firewall but it never
disappears). A program 'BCMFirewall.exe' is running and never terminating. If
I create the appropriate exceptions in the firewall configuration myself
(that would be the port for the sql server ) and start all over the summary
shows only the sql server network configuration. If I continue the software
freezes again. A program BCMSqlNetProt.exe is running endlessly. If I even
configure the network issues in the sql server manually the assistent hasn't
to do anything and terminates correctly (hurray!!).

I could live with that but my users unfortunately can't. I think it could be
some rights/authority matters but I don't know how to go on.

Thanks for your help. Best Regards
Hans

Thanks for your help Rahul.

In regard to your proposal: No I can't install SP4 for BCM or rather I
already installed it. If I want to download the german version of SP4 (only
can use the german version) the download page leads to a SP3 version of this
update. This means either there is no german version of this service pack or
the update is included in the german SP3.
I suppose the german SP3 should be enough to install because I read SP4 only
improves compatibility with Vista (correct?).
I also tried to update Outlook itself and patched it with SP3 for Office 2k3
(another SP3). Additionally I gave the network service 'user' full access to
every outlook and bcm folder (read somewhere this could help). I once again
checked permissions. Administrator is able to create firewall exceptions
(with ui and net sh command). SQL Express Server has the correct user groups
configured. None of this helped.
Normally I would say this is a typical problem which could be solved by a
reintstall of the complete product but in my case even this doesn't help.

Any further ideas?
Regards
Hans
