Outlook backup (PFBACKUP) option not in FILE

L

LTL

XP Pro, Outlook 2002, ThinkPad: I install PFBACKUP.EXE
(current version) from Microsoft. Install is normal but
the option never shows on the FILE dropdown (yes, it's
fully expanded). If I reinstall it, XP indicates it's
already installed and asks me if I want to remove the
current version.

Notes: PFBACKUP works fine on Outlook 2000 (another
system); it worked okay (I think) on XP until I installed
and uninstalled Spam Inspector. I can't find any
reference to the backup code anywhere in the system; I'm
wondering if the install procedure does not work.

Thanks...

Hi,

I'm having the same problem as described below. I just
installed pfbackup.exe and it appeared to install
correctly. No error messages. But the Backup option
doesn't appear on the file menu.

I tried it again, and it uninstalled and re-installed.
Everything looks fine. Rebooted the PC and restarted
Outlook. Still no Backup on the File menu.

Outlook 2002, Windows XP Pro, have all the latest updates
on both. Can't figure this out.

Thanks,
Ed

If you unistall it and try to reinstall, does it do the same thing? If so,

Patrick, I too (and others) are having this problem, and the KB article does
not solve it. Can you shed any more light please?

This may be a long shot, but try this

Close Outlook

Uninstall PFBACKUP

Search for and delete the file named OUTCMD.DAT

Restart Outlook

Reinstall PFBACKUP

Thanks but no such file exists on my system - is that normal? Where would
it be?

Could the solution to this be to somehow add the command into the menus
manually, like with the Customise option?

It's there, but probably hidden. Open Windows Explorer and select Tools |
Folder Options | View. Set it to show hidden files and folders and not to
hide protected files. Do the search again.

Found it at last, but no good - tried your suggestion but still no Backup
option.

There must be a solution to this, as other people have the problem yet some
don't. Any other ideas?
