Outlook and POP 3 Server Not Responding

M

Miguel Zuniga

I have a new Dell desktop with XP Prof, Outlook 2002,
Modem BCM V.92 56K, IE 6. Received PC on Aug 19, 2003 and
initially was able to receive and send successfuly a
couple of messages. Proceeded to install updates to XP
and I have not been able to receive nor send ANY
messages. I get an error report (0x800421A)and sometimes
0800CCC19: ..."the operation timed out waiting for a
response from the receiving (POP) server"...The
Outlook "progress report" states that network connection
was established, the outgoing mail server was found as
well as the incoming mail server...and that log into
incoming mail server (POP3) FAILED. Can anyone help me
or know of someone that can??? I'm now accessing the net
through a Windows 95 PC and Outlook Express (same
settings and ISP) with no problem at all!!!

I spent time online with a McAfee Technician, and they are aware of a
problem with the last VirusScan Update and Microsoft Office POP3 access.
They are working on the solution and will include it in a future update. In
the meantime, the best he had to offer was to end a McAfee process right
before sending and receiving mail. This temporary solution at least works
to let you get your mail.

Here are the steps he gave me:
Hold down CTRL ALT and DEL
Click on the Processes Tab
Find and highlight the file "mcvsescn.exe"
Click on the "End Process" button
Use Outlook to Send and Receive Mail

Hopefully the fix will be included in a VirusScan Update soon. I wasn't
sure how much of my Virus protection was being disabled by ending the
process, so I downloaded my mail, then rebooted before attempting to read
any of it.

Hope this helps you!
