Outlook 2007 WONT open attachments

Zaphod900

When I get a message with any kind of attachment, I cannot open it. For
example, if I get a .doc attachment, Word will open to a blank document.
Same with .pdf, etc.
I have reinstalled both Outlook and Word v2002, but this did not help.
Also, I cannot preview attachements of ANY kind.

Can you advise?

What happens when you try?

Define "cannot preview" in detail, please.

Example: Clicking on a .doc attachment WILL open to MS Word, but it will open
to a blank, seemingly new, document. Even with the simplest document.

Trying to preview same attachment, there will be a dialog box telling me to
install some kind of plug-in, which is already installed.

Post the exact text of any errors.

Exact sequence of events:

Click on message with Word .doc attachment, opens a new Outlook Window that
shows two attachments as Tabs:
testing.doc (24KB) [This has a MS Word Icon]
att00022.txt (210B) [This has a Notebook Icon]

Clicking once on the testing.doc gives me this message below:

This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for
it.
Browse for previewers online

Double clicking on the testing.doc Tab gives me an "Opening Mail Attachment"
dialog box, with Open, Save and Cancel being the button options.

I click on Open and it opens MS Word 2003 to a blank workspace. Not even a
blank document, just a blank workspace.

If I click Save, then save the file, then opening that file opens Word again
to a blank workspace.

However, if I drag that file to a clean MS Word document, the file opens
cleanly.

Now, .pdf file attachments are working properly, it only seems to be the
..doc attachments that have this behavior.

I hope this gives you enough information to help me.

You shouldn't be seeing the TNEF data
Clicking once on the testing.doc gives me this message below:

I'd try an Office repair install. In Outlook, Help>Office Diagnostics.

Brian:

I don't know what you mean by TNEF data.

I have done the repair install (my first step) and have now uninstalled and
re-installed Outlook 2007, with no change in the outcome.

Anything else you can suggest would be appreciated.

I just ran the diagnostics again, and it reports:

The Diagnostic Tests found no problems.
Diagnostics Run: 5
Diagnostics with problems: 0
Diagnostics that took corrective actions: 0

I hope this is not breaking etiquette on this board, but is there anyone who
can help me with this problem?
