Outlook 2007 Rules In Error "Cannot Reply to Message"

L

Lee Jones

Outlook 2007, following directions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311107

When I turn on the rule, I get pop-up message indicating 'Rules in
Error' (see http://i39.tinypic.com/30wxhsn.png)

The rule I set up is very basic, always replies with the same template
(see http://i44.tinypic.com/jzefyr.png)

My Outlook 2007 is up-to-date (see http://i41.tinypic.com/2yl0kdu.png)

Several search results indicate that this is a problem in Outlook 2007
introduced by a patch... Help?

I'm having basically the same issues as the others. Can not send or receive
messages. Error states specified server was found but no response. This
happened about a month ago and I kept updating existing email info and it
just starting working, but this has been going on since yesterday and I can't
seem to get it to work now. HELP

I have the same problem with Outlook 2007. Auto response via template used
to work but now it doesn't. After seeing your post I deinstalled MS Office
Outlook 2007 Update KB969907. That seems to have fixed the problem. What
are the implications of deinstalling that update? Can MS fix the bug?

I'm not sure if a patch did it, but its clearly a problem for a number of
people all of a sudden.

What patches did you install right before it started? (Look in control
panel, add/remove programs)

I had to uninstall the most recent security update to Office 2007 and
the rule started working again. I tried the other work-arounds I
found on the internet (e.g., just use plain text or run the rule
manually once) and neither of those worked for me. MS needs to fix
this--or else we're going to think they're breaking things to make us
buy exchange.

That update applies to meeting request issues -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969907 - so it shouldn't negatively affect
you unless you had the problems detailed in the KB article.

I have the same problem and I even uninstalled the latest security update
since it worked for someone here. Unfortunalty, it didn't solve my problem.

Any new theories?

Thanks

This appears to be the fault of the update for Outlook 2007 (KB969907). That
went on SP1 and is included in SP2. All is good with SP1 excluding (KB969907).

Has anyone came up with a fix for this? Without an Exchange server, building
a rule is the only way to create an Outof Office experience.

Listen to this...

Dell preloaded the software and when installed, Outlook 2007 Rules worked
fine. MS put out the updates that apparently broke the Rules and Alerts
(Cannot reply to message!). Now MS wants to charge me ($$) to open technical
ticket to fix a problem that I'm 99.9% sure they caused.

Oh boy...

I came up with a work-around the same day but did not post back to this
forum. Here's my attempt to make life easier for everybody.

See my blog post titled "Fix for 'Rules in Error' - 'Cannot Reply to
Message' for Outlook 2007 Out-Of-Office rule" at
http://www.leeandcathy.com/2009/07/fix-for-rules-in-error-cannot-reply-to.html
I often use my MS Outlook and almost every time I don't have any problems with my tool. But once I opened my software and noticed a very unpleasant thing, exacter some of my contacts and email were lost no one knew how. For luck I entered the Internet and discovered a next software - reading ost file. I was astonished, because of this program performed my issue for a minute and absolutely free as I keep in mind. Besides the tool helped my sister out,and she thanked me a cup of green tea in the cafe.

I still cannot get this to work. This is so frustrating. What is an
entreprenuer to do? Getting ready to leave MS for good... sigh
