Outlook 2007 only starts in Safe Mode

My Outlook 2007 has just started refusing to open normally. It gets to the
splash screen and then just stops (even left it for a hour to see what
happens, nothing). Alt Ctrl Delete however shows it still running. The .pst
is quite small (132k). I have run scanpst.exe several times as there has been
errors reported with the file. However I now have to Alt Ctrl Delete close it
when it stops loading and then restart it in Safe Mode. Any ideas anyone?

Safe mode shuts things off like addins, custom views, custom toolbars, .etc.
What I would do is check help to verify this, but see if there are options
to the /safe command line switch (e.g. /safe:1, /safe:2, /safe:3, and
/safe:4). Using these different switches will help to figure out which area
is causing Outlook to freak.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I don't use Outlook 2007. I'm still
on Outlook 2003 and I can't give you more specifics on where to look in the
interface on how to turn off things like 3rd party addins.

Hello,

I have the same problem: Office 2007 freezes when I start it normally, would
only start with /safe:3. In the safe mode, there are no disabled items, and I
removed all the addins (COM and exchange clients), but I still have the same
problem. It all started after I installed Office 2007 Service Pack 1. Any
ideas anybody?

I have the same problem too! I use Outlook at work, we paid over $900
CDN for this software and I actually use almost all of the functions
fo the software and have come to rely on it. We are not the only ones
having this problem. I see things posted all over the internet about
people having this very same problem. Something has got to work
finally? Let's post those answers folks!
I was going to uninstall and reinstall but the back up tool doesn't
appear to work in safe mode....sigh....

Hi there,

I solved the problem myself, by uninstalling windows desktop search from the
computer, in spite of all the warnings it gives like other programs are using
it etc. Outlook now opens normally and no problems with other programs as
well.

Cheers!
