OutLook 2007 Looses Connection Settings

A couple of my clients who have Microsoft Office 2007 Small Business
Edition are having the following problem with outgoing mail. They are
not using Exchange.
I checkmarked the 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication'
box on the outgoing server tab and keyed the remainder of the
information.
When I click on the 'test' button, I find an Email in the inbox.
Independantly of the test, I successfully test all combinations of
sending, receiving and replying to Emails with another external
domain.
The client continues to use Outlook (both sending and receiving) for a
couple of days with no issues.

Then, for no apparent reason, the 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication' seems to lose its settings. As a result, the SMTP
server refuses the outgoing Email.

Any insight as to the cause, etc is appreciated.

TIA.

Does the person have any antivirus proxies (i.e., AV programs that scan
outgoing mail) installed? Make sure that's not the case. If it doesn't
help, try a new mail profile.

Yes, they are both using Trend Micro Security Suite 2008 installed on
both.

Were it I, I'd uninstall Trend and reinstall without the mail integration.
