That's because Outlook 2000 was able to use the Windows Addressbook (AFAIK).
Versions of Outlook post 2000 do not. AFAIK there's no way of doing what you
want.

No version of Outlook opened the address book view from a shortcut. Nor was
it ever possible to access Outlook contacts without opening Outlook.

In no version of Outlook was it ever possible to access Outlook contacts
without opening Outlook. Your request makes no sense. Explain what you need
to do and why.

Well it's SOOOOOO long ago that I used 2000 and knowing that 2000 uses
WAB.dll, I did think that it was a possibility.

Thanks for the info folks. I just liked to be able to click on the quick
launch bar and have my address book pop up as it's my main phone & address
book. It was easy access when several applications were open. Outlook may
have been open, but I din't have to go into it to get the address book. Judy

Outlook has no address book and its address book view does not contain phone
numbers. It is certainly easy to create a shortcut that opens Outlook to
your Contacts Folder if you want. Use this syntax to select the folder with
which Outlook opens from a shortcut (be sure to use the quotes as shown).
The Contacts folder is used in this example.
<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Outlook.exe" /select
outlook:contacts
