how do you stop e-mails from automatically downloading when you open outlook
2007. i would like to be able to open outlook 2007 and have it wait for me
to select 'receive' before downloading e-mails to my system.

i know there is a way to do it in outlook 2003 but i do not remember how to
do it there and i cannot find how to do it in outlook 2007.

Uncheck the option to send/receive at a specific interval.

Choose Options from the Tools drop down menu. Click on Mail Setup tab.
Uncheck the box under Send/Receive. Then click the Send/Receive button and
2/3 of the way down — just do your thing.
